I had a long and passionate discussion with myself after reading your answer :)
And I must admit that you've been pretty convincing... I think I agree with everything you said.
Indeed I realized that so many years working with a system that was not very "logical" regarding the way mandatory fields are handled might have altered my judgment. I had to take a step back and see what I would say if I discovered such a system today for the first time... And I would definitely consider it a bug and find it annoying to have different behaviors depending on the channel you use to create your data, etc.
So thanks for your insight. It was very interesting to have this discussion with you.
