BU_SORT1 and BU_SORT2 are fields of BUT000 table and thus you should be able to change it in BUPA_GENERAL_UPDATE badi. You can call and update FM(Hope you know how to create an update FM) from here and call the commit inside that. It will work. If not working, please paste your code.
