we were facing the same problem, the cause of the problem was that the customers' sales area data were maintained on the sales organization, distribution channel and division level. Now, beacause the division doesn't exist on the sales order's header, the system couldn't determine the customer's sales area data correctly and threw this wierd message :).
a possible solution to this problem is to enable the division on the sales order header. you can do this as follows:
- go to spro->Customer Relationship Management->Master Data->Organizational Management->Division Settings->Define Use of Division and Dummy Division.
- tick the (Header Div.Act.) check box.
- make blank the (R/3 dummy divsn).
